Members of the Troup City Council met on August 10th to propose the tax rate for the budget year 2026-2027.
Troup city council members voted to propose the tax rate receiving the tax rate packet from City Manager Gene Cottle, which included a calendar of tax events, as well as the rate of $0.549901 per $100 of valuation for the fiscal year 2026-2027.
The proposed tax rate will go through the required process beginning on Monday, September 14 with a public hearing, with adoption scheduled to complete on September 21st. The public hearing must be held at least one week prior to the adoption of the tax rate.
The motion passed unanimously with a full roll call vote, minus the absence of Councilman Nelson Darden.
The budget should finalize at the September 21st meeting.
Councilwoman Susan Adams suggested adding an ordinance requiring downtown building facades to be cleaned and better maintained.
City Manager Cottle stated he would investigate other ordinances in surrounding towns and cities addressing the issue.
