Henderson County Commissioners’ Court approved the planned renovation of the Henderson County Annex Building during Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Commissioners Court.
The building located at 601 E. Cedar Creek Parkway in Seven Points will serve multiple purposes, including a temporary voting facility as well providing additional space for Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace’s official office and the county tax office. The facility is the former Prosperity Bank location.
This is the first phase of the project which will begin with a partial demolition. No official date was set to begin the demolition.
The Court also renewed the insurance options for county employees. Commissioners adopted the County Choice Silver Plan for Retiree Medical and Rx Care for 2027.
Commissioners also adopted minor revisions to the Henderson County Employee Handbook. One change included changing the language to ensure the county’s existing seatbelt policy conformed with federal grant requirements
A request by the Tax Assessor Collector to refund $46,200 due to overpayment of taxes was approved.
The majority of the overpayment was due to the granting of exemptions.
The Court had no financial reports, payroll, contracts, budget amendments, or bids to consider Tuesday.
Several Right of way permits were approved, allowing for fiber optic cable installation across the county.
The installation pertains to a state funded initiative to encourage high speed internet access in rural Texas.
A motion to pay 2026 budget year bills in the amount of $654 991 was approved.
The County also adopted a plat in Precinct 1.
Commissioners also denied a plat in Precinct 2.
The minutes of the September 15 meeting of the Commissioner’s Court were approved prior to a planned Executive Session. No action was reported from a scheduled Executive Session as of press time.
The Henderson County Commissioners’ Court meets at 9 a.m. every Tuesday, unless otherwise noted, inside the Annex Building, 125 N. Prairieville Street in Athens.
